Refining Capacity in India

Total refining capacity in India increased from 187.4 MMT (as on 1 April, 2011) to 215.1 MMT (as on 1 April, 2014) and is projected to reach 239.6 MMT in 2013-14 with capacity augmentation of existing refineries and commissioning of the Paradip Refinery. India is not only self-sufficient but also substantially exports petroleum products. During financial year 2011-12, India exported 60.84 MMT of petroleum products worth Rs.2,66,486 crore.

Barmer, Rajasthan

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Government of Rajasthan for setting up of a 9 Million Metric Tonnes Per Annum (MMTPA) Refinery-cum-Petrochemical Complex at Barmer in Rajasthan. The refinery is designed to process 4.5 MMTPA Rajasthan crude and 4.5 MMTPA imported crude. The 4.5 MMTPA imported crude is to be transported through existing Cairn’s Barmer Salaya Pipeline.
